When does the senior generation begin to lose control in the Family Owned Business?

They all seem to have the same pattern. The structure is highly centralized. He/she essentially calls the shots. As the business grows and family members and or others are brought on, responsibility is pushed down, however, autonomy is minimal as all important decisions are cleared, tasks are assigned and are implemented quickly and for the most part correctly.
